REMEMBERING MEMA WEEK..

Just a reminder .... Today marks 7 years since "MEMA" passed away. So please take a moment today to say a prayer for her. And remember all the great times we had with her.
It would be great if everyone could share some of their funniest moments they've had with her. I will leave this post on for one week so please feel free to share your stories about mema, I know she will be looking down and laughing and saying...."thank you for remembering me". Tomorrow would have been her 86th Birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEMA!!! WE LOVE & MISS YOU!

Remembering Mema's bingo days when I had to pick her up at St. Mary's. We'd come home and she'd stuff her hands in her bra and pull out cash. She'd say that she won in bingo.

What stands out most in my mind right now is the time she thought we forgot her Birthday. She was acting kinda funny that day and Gedy & I noticed it and wondered what was up so finally, gedy & I asked her what was wrong and she said...I'm mad at all of you because you forgot my Birthday! And Gedy said...Mother..your Birthday is tomorrow. And she laughed with relief. Then she said well come on in for some cake, I made it today for my Birthday. The cake was great lol...

Oh Lord, I think one of my favorite moments will always be when she thought I was gay. Or the time where she was sneaking wine under the table and no one noticed that she was half in the bag!

What i think was hysterically funny was when you used to say the word gay and it would send her up and over the edge Robin. She kicked you out once, remember? but even funnier was when she used to say she thought Christy was gay and we used to laugh at her. God only knows how she knew, but we thought she was being over the top. Or how about how Brian was always Brain and Brendan was always Brandon????? God I miss her.

Ooooh or how about the one when she had the "black" heads on her table by her tv???? Everyone remember the black heads? Or the books with the naked African people???? Ha. Christian and I were always giggling at those.........

I think the black heads belong to Diane, not sure.

I miss her too and only knew her for such a short time. We always talk about her over here and try to tell Lucy stories so that she knows about her Mema when she sees pictures of her. By the way, what color eyes did she have? It thought they were blue but I think last time Tony was here he said they were brown. Any ideas.
I wish she were here to make some potato pancakes (the baby in my belly really wants them)!!

Ohhh, I miss her so much... I will never get over the fact that we would come on Xmas Eve and she had worked all day, and she always had such a great meal prepared and also was in such a great mood, I never heard her say she was tired or anything. She sure was the GREATEST!
I won't forget the first time we took her to Bingo here. She was a little worried, she thought it was in the bad side of town, she enjoyed it tremendously and watched over my cards and Susans. And we of course had to have donuts she said.
Love to you all
Diane

Her amazing potato pancakes, her brilliant fashion sense (as the first picture my Mom posted shows), Minnie having kittens in the bottom drawer of the bureau and her love of Danielle Steele books.

When we lived on Buttonwood Street, she would have her porch FILLED with laundry and plants. She always sat in a chair under the window in the midst of all the laundry. I would come home and walk up the back stairs. Mema would talking and scare the crap out of me because I had no idea she was there.

Sorry its not the first picture that Mom posted that shows her fashion sense. It's the picture of Mema and Brendan :)

Oh yeah, the kitties in the bottom drawer!

I'll never forget that she gave Weasel a second name (Rusty) because she didn't like the name I gave him. The only cat I knew that answered to two names....lol...

And I'm only bringing this memory up because it's funny as hell....and everyone's already mentioned all the good food she made....but there were definitely some disasters if I recall. My favorite "what the hell did you cook" moment was the fish jello. Gray gelatin with the bones still in it.....WHACKY! No, I didn't try it.

how about those lovely "mugs" she gave us every year for christmas? remember those? We still have ours. Brian loves them....LOL.

Anyone remember the time she took a photo with a black nurse at the hospital so she could send it to Lithuania to show them what black people look like?

and how about her love for Gertie Finn and Mrs. Brown?

And how about how she always knew how to do everything? She could pull out teeth while cooking dinner and getting Milk of magnesia and didn't bat an eyelash. i still love the smell of Nivea lotion and fresh cucumbers from the garden......

Ok, enough for now. I have to go to bed now........lol

I remember all of these things about her and I miss them so much, but what I miss the very most(besides mema) is the whole family getting together. I just know that it will never happen again no matter how hard I try.It makes me so sad!I'm sure it would make mema so sad too.

Prepping for Easter
Even though snow still covers most of our front and back yard, it hasn't stopped us getting ready for Easter. We spent this past weekend taking out our Easter decorations and getting the house ready for this weekend!

I bought these hand painted eggs while in Vienna last year. They are so beautiful. I so vividly remember this time last year; boy, do I miss Vienna.

When I was younger, my mom always had an easter tree with pussy willows. I have followed suit and I love how my viennese eggs look with my mom's easter decorations. Luke and I decorated our Easter tree (below).

Our first Easter in our new home! Yeah!
